Chapter Seventy

Suddenly a cry broke out from Shalini's baby monitor, notifying her that Ahana was awake, so she headed on up to Ahana's room. Seeing the time, Khushi decided to wake Aarav up so that the little one wouldn't stay up all night, so she went to Aarav's room. The little one was still asleep when Khushi got there, so she picked him up and sat down in the rocking chair, trying to wake him up. As she did, she couldn't stop thinking about everything they had just learned downstairs, and it still boggled her mind.

"Is he awake yet?"

Khushi snapped out of her thoughts and looked up to see Arnav. He came in, flicking the light switch on, which immediately made Aarav twitch and fuss.

"Why didn't I think to do that," Khushi asked aloud.

"You're distracted," and he took Aarav in his arms, the little one's head resting on his shoulder.

Khushi let out a sigh and leaned back in the chair. "I can't believe she has a son. A fucking son," she hissed.

Arnav couldn't help his chuckle. It wasn't everyday that Khushi would cuss after all.

"Who does that," Khushi continued. "She lied to her husband saying that the child was dead when in actuality she had him shipped off to boarding school without a care for him. Who does that?"

"Only someone as deranged as Divya."

Khushi let out a scoff. "Deranged is right - she wanted everything that Ammu had so badly, that she even neglected her own son and focused only on you. ...it just blows my mind."

"Which is one of the reasons why I want a private investigator to look in on him and keep an eye out."

Khushi looked up at him in confusion.

"I mean like you said, she neglected him and only cared about me and my family. That could give him motive to harm our family, and he could just be lying. Now I know I might be overthinking it, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I won't let anyone harm you, Aarav, our coming baby, or anyone for that matter, at all, ever again."

Khushi got up and went over to him, smiling softly. She reached up and gave him a soft kiss before leaning her forehead against his. Just then, Aarav began to fuss, bringing their attention on him.

"I guess he can sense when his parents are getting lovey-dovey," Khushi chuckled.

"Yeah, that's gonna be a problem," Arnav sighed.

Khushi chuckled and took the little one in her arms, who had drifted his eyes open a little bit. He shut them again for a moment, before opening them again.

"Good morning to you, or rather, good evening little one," Khushi grinned.

Aarav mumbled and cooed into her neck before rubbing his little fists on his eyes.

"I'm going to assume that he said he's hungry," Arnav said.

Khushi nodded. "All he had was his bottle on the ride back."

"Why don't you get him cleaned up and I'll go get his food."

Khushi nodded once more and Arnav placed a kiss on her head before leaving the room. Once he had left, Khushi turned to get Aarav washed up, as well as changed his diaper and clothes. As soon as Aarav was fresh and clean, Arnav came back with Aarav's food. He sat down on Aarav's play mat and Khushi set him down besides his dad, placing his bib around his neck. She put a few of his toys around him, Aarav going immediately for his giraffe, and Arnav fed their son in peace.

"Your appointment is tomorrow, right," Arnav asked.

Khushi nodded. "Yeah, it's in the morning. I asked Ammu to watch Aarav while we're gone."

"Excited?"

Khushi gave a small smile before placing her hand over her tummy. "Anxious, really."

Arnav took her other hand in his and Khushi looked up at him.

"Everything will be alright from here on out," Arnav said softly. "I promise."

He reached over and kissed her and Khushi caressed his cheek. Aarav began to act fussy, causing the two to separate and turn their attention back to their little boy.

The little family carried on with the rest of their evening, along with the rest of the family, hoping that the worst was behind them.

*~*

The following morning, Arnav and Khushi both went to Khushi's doctor's appointment. Khushi was anxious to hear what the gender of her baby was, and she couldn't remove her eyes off of the screen as the doctor continued on with her doings.

"Alright, so today we're going to find out the gender of the baby," Dr. Fields smiled. "Excited?"

"Anxious," Khushi confessed.

"You have nothing to worry about. So far, everything has been going really well. And I promise that this time, I will personally see to your delivery when the time comes."

Khushi gave a small smile and Arnav squeezed her hand lightly.

"So then, ready to find out the sex of your baby?"

Both Arnav and Khushi nodded and looked at the screen, displaying their baby.

"Okay then...."

The sound of the baby's heartbeat filled up the room.

"It looks like... you're having a baby girl," Dr. Fields smiled.

Khushi gasped and covered her mouth with her hands as tears began to form and free themselves on their own. Arnav couldn't believe his own ears - his wish of having a baby girl was coming true! He reached over to Khushi and placed a kiss on her head then rested his cheek against her, Khushi taking a hold of his hands and bringing them by her heart.

She truly couldn't believe that they were going to have a baby girl, and she was very very happy!
